Is there any relationship between label glue and temperature?

The weather has cooled down. Recently, many label paper users who have found the problematic technology have complained that the glue of the self-adhesive label is not sticky enough, and the label has fallen off. In fact, these problems are related to temperature. Especially in the food industry, the most common thing is that labels that are affixed at room temperature are placed in the freezer and stored in the freezer. After being taken out, the labels fall off and become warped.

We often see a label with a description of temperature: keep it at room temperature, use the temperature range of minus 50 degrees to 90 degrees, and the minimum labeling temperature is 7 degrees. There are three kinds of temperature mentioned respectively, namely storage temperature, labeling temperature and use temperature. Let me introduce how much temperature affects the label.

Storage temperature. In the self-adhesive label factory, the label production, processing and storage temperature is around 23 degrees, and the relative humidity is around 55%. Therefore, the label paper purchased by the user should be stored at around 23 degrees Celsius. If it is placed outdoors or in a low-temperature environment, it is easy to cause the glue to freeze, so that the glue is not sticky. If it is placed in a place with high temperature and high humidity, the hot melt adhesive of the self-adhesive label will overflow and the initial adhesion of the label will decrease. So the correct storage environment is very important.

Labeling temperature. Every type of self-adhesive label has a minimum labeling temperature, and the minimum temperature cannot be lowered when labeling. Below this minimum labeling temperature, the label will have problems such as weak labeling and warping. The temperature conducive to the labeling effect is also around 23 degrees.

Use temperature. 24 hours after the label is attached, the glue of the label and the surface of the object have been fully bonded at this time. Each label has its use temperature. For example, low-temperature resistant labels can be used at minus 70 degrees to minus 196 degrees. The heat-resistant label can be used in an environment of 300 degrees. Only by purchasing labels that adapt to the temperature environment of your products can you achieve the correct results.

Someone may ask, what should I do if the weather suddenly drops in the past few days? At this time, the glue of the self-adhesive label is frozen, you need to deal with the label, it can still be used. First, put the label in an environment above the minimum labeling temperature of the label and keep it for 24 hours to allow the temperature of the label itself to rise to restore its viscosity. 

At the same time, the label needs to be placed in the labeling temperature environment for more than 12 hours. To put it simply, it is necessary to make the label and the affixed object reach the minimum labeling temperature of the label at the same time, so that it can be used. After it is pasted, it cannot be immediately put in an environment with a large temperature difference. It needs to be kept for 24 hours to make the viscosity of the glue reach the normal value. Film labels are easy to expand and contract due to temperature changes, and paper labels are also prone to fiber deformation due to moisture.
