Perfect binding is the most commonly used binding method at present. Perfect binding is divided into hot glue (EVA), cold glue (PVA), and PUR glue binding. The most commonly used in China is the hot melt packaging process. Most of the books sold in bookstores are in wireless binding, where the pages of the book are glued together.

Plastic binding is suitable for binding magazines and books with many pages. Its inner pages are assembled using the paste method. That is, the posts on each page are stacked one by one for binding. The book block processed by perfect binding can be used for both paperback and hardcover, and is the main binding method for books with larger print runs. The following figure shows a book processed with perfect binding.

Glue binding refers to a binding method in which each page of a printed product is fixed on the spine with glue. Let us briefly introduce its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: The wireless perfect binding operation is automated, fast, and time-sensitive. Books and periodicals can be read out at 160 degrees. If you use PUR glue, it can be close to 180 degrees, and it is easy to read photos and charts across pages. The maximum glue binding thickness can reach about 7 cm, and there is a great degree of freedom in collating and collating.

Disadvantages: If the glue is poor or the glue is not good, it will easily fall off when the number of flips is large. Poor rubber materials will become brittle and easily degummed when the weather becomes cold. When reading, if the center seam is stressed, cracks may occur or the page may fall off.

When using wireless perfect binding, you need to pay attention to the following points.

1. After the hot-melt glue is soaked and dried, the book cannot be opened to the end, and the 3mm part of the binding cannot be read. Therefore, the center position of the inner page should deviate from the order opening by 2 to 3 mm.

2. Hot-melt-packed books should not use paper that weighs more than 157 grams. Because the paper is too thick, it may cause degumming and fracture at the spine glue.

3. The thickness of glue-bound books is generally between 3mm-30mm. The book block is too thin and cannot be loaded on the machine. If the book block is too thick, it will also easily cause the glue to break when it is read. Generally speaking, the thinner the paper, the greater the allowable thickness of wireless binding.

4. For books with a slashed cover, the cover cut must be processed first, and then the hot melt package is easy to be squeezed and deformed after being clamped and shaped, so it is not suitable to use perfect binding, but it can be considered to use lock binding.
